Craftcation 2013

#Craftcation – Sew Good

My wife sends out smartly wrapped packages to friends across the country, hosts family craft days, watches tons of crafting videos while tweeting or Facebooking with crafty friends and I even joined her on a crafting cruise a few years back. So it was no surprise when she decided to volunteer at this year’s Craftcation conference here in nearby Ventura.

RIP Dave Brubeck

Legendary pianist and composer Dave Brubeck passed away on December 5, one day shy of his 92nd birthday.

I don’t remember when it happened by in high school I fell in love with jazz. Maybe it happened when I was casually scanning local radio stations and stumbled on the jazz station. There was something comforting about the seemingly improvisational nature of the sounds that allowed me to detach from the chaos of living in a house with six other people while still trying to be a good student and stay out of trouble.

Articles were written about the event, including one in the New York times, and standbyers recorded video of the event and posted them to YouTube. Then, nothing happened.

Jose Rico with Jes Sofia Valle
It’s been a while since I’ve attended a Latinos in Social Media (LATISM) event in Los Angeles. Okay, it’s been a while since I’ve attended any kind of function in downtown LA that didn’t include picket signs, marching, and chanting.

So when my friend Jes Sofia Valle (@jessofiavalle) invited me to attend the LATISM reception for the White House at the Biltmore Hotel on April 4, I couldn’t pass it up and brought bring my camera along to support the event she helped plan.
