I’ve been in marketing and communications for the past ten years and I must admit that marketing mistakes have been made. For example, there was the time I left the “L” out of the word “Public” on that full page ad. In a similar (yet more automated) fail, Doubletree Hotel (Hilton) just showed up as the Promoted Tweet on Twitter for the new trending topic, “#WorstHotelEver.

Last week Latina blogueras from across the country descended on Washington DC and the White House for the first ever Latinos in Social Media Top Bloguera Retreat. HTML for Bloggers Course – Lesson 2

In Lesson #1, we learned about the basics of Web pages and started learning about marking up documents, literally. The purpose of Lesson #1 is to give you a visual understanding of how HTML works. HTML knowledge is one of the biggest stumbling blocks for small business owners looking to manage their own blogs. On a blog platform like WordPress.com, a non-techie can configure 80-90% of their site without knowing any HTML. On Posterous blogs, 95% of the blog site can be well configured without HTML.

It’s that 5-10% that can stop a small business owner in their tracks. The intent of this post and the whole course is to help you get over that learning hump so you can manage your blog effectively and go on and do what you do best, run your business.
