Social Media Is People!

The revolutionary part of social media is that it takes offline ways of doing business – networking, one-on-one communication, relationship building – and offers an online way of building and fostering them.

This is a fundamental shift in the way companies sell and market online.

In this new sales and marketing world, “leads” and “eyeballs” will now be seen as “people” and “fans”.

The only way social media will go away is the way the “e” fell off of “e-business.” Social media will be folded into the way all companies conduct business.

  1. I was at Felt Club as a shopper and to visit all my vendor friends. I didn’t use social media at the show, but I used it beforehand to connect with people I wanted to see, and make a lunch date with a friend who was going.

    Yes, I was at Felt Club and if was after FC that I became friend with you on Twitter. ;o)

    I helped a friend that was a vendor at Felt Club. Although I have a crafty business myself, My purpose of being there was to help my friend with her booth, see all my crafty vendors and friends, do a little networking, and a little shopping. All in all it was very successful and a super fun experience.

    There was definitely a lot of Twittering going on at the show. I also posted 6 TwitPics to my Twitter stream and several minutes of live video streaming via QIK.

    I think that five years ago there still would have been a lot of cross communication via forums and email but now the communication is almost instantaneous and much more inclusive.

    Ms. Jen – I remember you thought I was looney for filming everything at the show. :-)
