One of the primary questions at the start of a relationship is “Can I trust you?”
The same is true on online relationships and in the process of vetting new connections and networks. Everyone gets invites to join this or that and if you don’t have a previous relationship or personally know the person IRL (in real life) then you might be suspicious of the attempt to connect.
The film “Bless Me, Ultima” opens to a national audience this weekend after a successful run in a limited audience last Fall.
Weekend box office numbers matter, big time. If you want to see more quality Latino-themed films, set aside some time today to take your family, friends, and neighbors down to your local theater and watch this film. Strong weekend support for this movie means that it is less likely to get pulled from screens and it will once again show Hollywood that Latinos will come out to support important films

Latina Bloggers in DC
Last week Latina blogueras from across the country descended on Washington DC and the White House for the first ever Latinos in Social Media Top Bloguera Retreat. Over 65 top bloggers were invited to the VIP retreat including leaders Ana Flores- @lbconnect (Latina Bloggers Connect), Yoly Mason – @yolymason (Las Blogueras), Jeannette Kaplun- @JeannetteKaplun (Blogs de mamás), and Angélica Pérez-@AngelicaMentor1 (New Latina). LATISM hostesses included co-founders Eliane Ramos – @ergeedgoddess and Ana Roca – @anarc.
It’s been a while since I’ve attended a Latinos in Social Media (LATISM) event in Los Angeles. Okay, it’s been a while since I’ve attended any kind of function in downtown LA that didn’t include picket signs, marching, and chanting.
So when my friend Jes Sofia Valle (@jessofiavalle) invited me to attend the LATISM reception for the White House at the Biltmore Hotel on April 4, I couldn’t pass it up and brought bring my camera along to support the event she helped plan.
I had the great privilege of co-producing the Cause 2012 Conference in Santa Maria, CA on Saturday, October 29th. The worlds of social media and grassroots organizing connected like two atoms smashing into each other to create a brilliant new energy.
Three major conference within the next month will either be completely produced by a Latino organization or have a major Latino component – BlogWorld 2011 in New York, Tecnifícate in Santa Clarita, CA, and the Latinos in Social Media (LATISM) Latino2 conference in Silicon Valley.
The MyMic Facebook application lets you post audio updates to your Facebook profile or onto your friend’s Wall. You can post up to five seconds for free and there are paid options to post longer messages.
I ran into the application’s creator, LeaAnna Hernandez (@MyMicApp on Twitter), during a #LATISM Twitter chat. I had asked the Twittersphere if there were any Latino/Latina startup techies out there and LeaAnna “raised her hand.”
Due to a number of factors, a great number of people (friends, supporters, participants) cannot make it this weekend to San Luis Obispo. But we still expect a very good group, so we have decided to hold a big meetup in town and postpone the formal event for early 2011 when more people can make it.

Come join us on December 4, 2010, at the Cal Poly Performing Arts Center in San Luis Obispo. California’s Central Coast is the birth place of “La Causa”, the Latino civil rights movement. The conference will focus on the theme “Community and Collaboration in Central California: Then and Now.”
